I decided before I began this project that on the 18th of each month I would do a self-portrait. I chose the 18th since my birthday falls on that day in June so it seemed as good a day as any. Today I took a few self-portraits but there I noticed a reflection from my eyes and decided to focus instead on that. Of course that meant another great chance to utilise the macro functionality on my newest lens, and to mess around a little with lighting and reflections. I tried a lot of different angles and locations but settled on this picture from a downstairs room in my house.
The theme around this photo is the saying “Eyes are the windows to the soul”. I feel like the look out of the window seeing a blue sky and the vibrant green of of the grass and trees in the sunlight portrays an interesting message of self-conciousness and escapism. I think that is particularly interesting because it’s not just a photo of a reflection of a window but a reflection of some of my personality as well. Capturing humanity is a very powerful ability of photography and it’s something which I would like to get more experience in.

Either that or this may just be a load of self-indulgent bullshit 🙂 Thoughts, right?
